The Valentini family has been cultivating vines, olive trees and cereals in the countryside of Loreto Aprutino, in the province of Pescara, for more than 300 years.
In the early 1950's the farm began to focus on wine under the guidance of Edoardo Valentini, a charismatic and elusive lawyer turned vigneron. Edoardo quickly established a reputation as a maverick in the Abruzzo landscape, producing wines that transcended the varietals and the region they were made from. The core of his attention was devoted to a subvarietal of the Trebbiano clone unique to his land. He was able to raise the quality of the wines produced by this grape "to heights no one would have believed possible"(Wasserman).Today Edoardo's son Francesco, his wife Elena and son Gabriele continue the tradition, maintaining the legacy and spirit of the winery.
The farm has 300 hectares 80 of which are vineyards. Valentini chooses to release wine only in ideal vintages and even then only 5% of the wine produced is bottled while the remainder is sold as "sfuso' in demijohns to local consumers and restaurants.
The Valentini family today is very active in olive oil production and is completing the construction of an olive press that will serve the entire community of Loreto Aprutino whose olive oil has a long reputation of greatness.
