Amorotti is a young winery that has deep roots in the farming history of Abruzzo. It is run by Gaetano Carboni, class of 1976, a lawyer who chose to dedicate himself to his family farm instead of practicing law.

Amorotti is Gaetano's mother maiden name, his grandfather was the first Italian extra virgin olive oil producer to export to the US, in 1905. The family today runs an olive oil museum in an ancient castle in the heart of the central Abruzzo town of Loreto Aprutino, displaying old production methods, pictures and tools.

The vineyards have belonged to the Amorotti/Carboni family for over a century and wine was always produced for family consumption in the same cavernous cellar that is used today. In 1992 Gaetano refurbished the cellar and in 1999 started uprooting old vines to plant new stock. Only recently Gaetano decided to start bottling the best grapes they harvest. The 2016 vintage is the first release. Gaetano also continues to produce olive oil to this day and together with his wife they run an agriturismo with a focus on contemporary art where they host a series of artists-in-residence programs.

They now have 16 hectares of vineyards, they make 22.000 bottles, one fourth of their potential production, the rest of the grapes are sold.

The vineyards sit on clay and calcareous soil at 350 meters above sea level, south-east facing and have been certified organic since 2009.
The wines are made with spontaneous fermentation with native yeast and are filtered.
