ROBERT PARKER Wine Advocate (Antonio Galloni)

2006 Odoardi - Savuto   89 pts   Odoardi’s 2006 Savuto is beautiful in this vintage. A blend of 45% Gaglioppo, 15% Greco Nero, 15% Nerello Cappuccio, 15% Magliocco Canino and 10% Sangiovese, this plump, juicy red impresses for the integrity of its fruit. Tobacco, mint, truffles and smoke add further layers of complexity. This is a gorgeous effort from Odoardi. Even better, it is a steal for the money.

2003 Odoardi - Polpicello   90 pts   The 2003 Scavigna Polpicello is a more important wine and is made from a high-altitude vineyard cropped to low yields. The Polpicello is 40% Gaglioppo, 25% Nocera Nero, 20% Magliocco, 10% Nerello Cappuccio, 3% Cabernet Franc 1% each Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot that spent 18 months in French oak. Sweet, silky tannins frame roses, ripe red cherries, flowers and spices in a rich style that retains considerable freshness and vibrancy. The finish is long, succulent and elegant. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2020.

2003 Odoardi Vigna Garrone     92 pts   The 2003 Vigna Garrone is an opaque beauty bursting with the essence of dark cherries, scorched earth, licorice, smoke and game. It comes across as slightly wilder in its expression than the 2004 yet this big, full-bodied, generous wine will provide highly pleasurable drinking over the next decade. The Vigna Garrone is a blend of 80% Gaglioppo, 10% Nerello Cappuccio, 5% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot which spent 14 months in French oak.

2004 Odoardi Vigna Garrone     92 pts   Odoardi’s 2004 Vigna Garrone is fleshy and vibrant in its perfumed violets, black cherries, jammy blackberries, earthiness and sweet toasted oak. It offers superb balance and poise, with elegant, refined tannins that round out the close. Today it comes across as youthful and powerful but it should settle down in another year or two. This blend of 80% Gaglioppo, 10% Nerello Cappuccio, 5% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot spent 14 months in French oak.

2004 Odoardi – Vigna Mortilla   90 pts
The 2004 Savuto Superiore Vigna Mortilla offers up generous black cherries, flowers, minerals, herbs and sweet spices in a fleshy yet vibrant style, with firm yet well-integrated tannins that frame the fruit all the way to the long finish. This is a beautiful, bold wine, and while some rustic elements remain, it also appears to have the stuffing to drink well for at least another few years. The Savuto Superiore Vigna Mortilla is a blend of 45% Gaglioppo, 15% Greco Nero, 15% Nerello Cappuccio, 15% Magliocco Canino and 10% Sangiovese that spent 12 months in French oak.

2005 Odoardi – Vigna Garrone   89 pts
The 2005 Scavigna Vigna Garrone is a menacing, dark wine imbued with melted road tar, smoke, herbs, minerals and blackberry jam. This intense, powerful wine is not for the timid, but it offers outstanding density and richness in a full-bodied style.
